This is a short video I created that depicts my concept of painting a series of images based on a theme.  in this theme, The Children of China, my intent was to depict the spirit and subtle passion of children in the countryside in modern China.  Using an impressionist and colorist approach I place the viewer in the position of dwelling on the children, imagining what their inner world is truly about.  I choose to not overtly communicate "passion" but rather, allow the viewer to "be there" feeling and imagining.

I encourage artists, particularly my students, to paint in series as it draws so much more out of our spirits than normally occurs by painting a scene alone.  We naturally explore how to create variations for our images as we travel toward the intended goal of the series.
