2017 INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE AT YOSEMITE
EXHIBITION TITLE: 2017 CPAP International Plein Air Challenge at Yosemite. The entire exhibit will feature CPAP Signature Members, Finalists from the 2016 ARC International Salon Competition and entries from the public at large.
SPONSORING ORGANIZATIONS: California Plein Air Painters in cooperation with the Art Renewal Center’s 2017 ARC International Salon, Visit Yosemite Madera County, Best Western Plus Yosemite Gateway Inn and Yosemite National Park.
EXHIBITION DATES: Sept 30, 2017 – Oct 22, 2017.
LOCATION: Yosemite Gateway Inn, 40530 Highway 41, Oakhurst, California 93644. The exhibit will take place festival style at the Inn on the opening weekend and then move to the Ridgeline Gallery in Mariposa, California.
AWARDS CEREMONY: Saturday, September 30, 2017, 10am at the Yosemite Gateway Inn Conference Center. Featured speakers include Scott Gediman Yosemite National Park Information Officer, Tonya Zenin, Director and Founder of California Plein Air Painters, Lanie Suderman, Visit Yosemite Madera County Coordinator and our Keynote Speaker Carl Judson, President and Founder of Guerilla Painters and Judson Art Outfitters.
ARTIST RECEPTION: Saturday, September 30, 2017, 1pm-2pm at Yosemite Gateway Inn. The reception is open to the public.
ART DEMONSTRATION: The Artist Reception will be followed by a painting demonstration by CPAP Signature Envoy Lisa Fricker, Master Pastelist. Lisa is one of the premiere artists in the country. Her artwork includes 92 inductees to the Astronaut Hall of Fame at the Kennedy Space Center.
QUALIFICATIONS: This event is open to all artists 18 years of age or older. We are accepting studio artwork in addition to plein air artwork as a special feature of this year's exhibit.
SUBJECT: We are seeking two-dimensional artwork representing landscapes seascapes and urbanscapes. Figures-in-the-landscape are allowed providing the landscape dominates the subject matter. We are accepting studio works as well as plein air compositions. This is a curated event so please pay special attention to the size and framing restrictions.
DEADLINE (EXTENDED): Friday, September 8, 2017, 11:59pm PDT.
IMAGES AND ARTWORK: Images for upload should be 1000 pixels on the longest side at 72dpi. Artwork can be plein air or studio work. Maximum unframed size is 432 square inches (LxH). Maximum framed size is 716 square inches (LxH). Maximum weight with frame must not exceed 25 lbs. Frames should be traditional in appearance and not overly ornate. Paintings must be ready for hanging with a wire hanger. No brackets or features requiring special wall mounts.
MEDIUM: Only original paintings in oil, watercolor, gouache, pastel, acrylic or other traditional media will be accepted.
COMMISSION: 70% to Artist (All artwork MUST be for sale);
HOW TO APPLY: All applications will be processed online. Do not mail in or email applications. They will not be accepted. Complete the Application, select your Entry Options and Submit (see Entry Fee section below).
JURORS: The Jury Panel for the 2017 International Plein Air Challenge consists of selected Signature Members of California Plein Air Painters. The Awarding Juror will be Tonya Zenin, CPAP Signature Member and Founder.
NOTIFICATIONS (EXTENDED): Notifications and other details will be sent to artists via email on or before September 10, 2017 (previously September 5).
ARTWORK DROP-OFF: Saturday, September 23 – Thursday, September 28, 2017; 8am-5pm at the Yosemite Gateway Inn Lobby.
***If artists cannot drop-off accepted artwork in person during the designated dates and times, artwork must be shipped. ***
SHIPPING INFORMATION: Out-of-town shipments MUST arrive no later than September 27, 2017. Artists will be responsible for the cost of crating, handling, and shipping artwork to and from the exhibition. Shipments must not arrive prior to Saturday, September 23, 2017. Artwork shipped in must also contain a return shipping label. Further shipping information will be provided upon acceptance and notification.
ENTRY FEE: $45 for three (3) images. Early Bird Fee is $35 if submitted on or before August 15, 2017 at 11:59pm PDT. Event Packages are available that include lodging at the Yosemite Gateway Inn, Awards Ceremony Seating, Admission to Yosemite National Park. and a complimentary full breakfast for each day of room occupancy. There is also a 10% Early Bird discount on Lodging Packages.
AWARDS: Cash and prizes totaling over $5,000 will be awarded to the successful competitors. Awards will include First, Second and Third Place, Awards of Distinction and Merit and Honorable Mention.
