Lisa Fricker is inspired by light, moved by relationships, intrigued by mystery, and seduced by color. Her first job was painting portraits from life at the age of 16 – at a theme park! Short poses recorded in charcoal, pastel and watercolor served as an introduction to life drawing and unexplored media. After this trial by fire, she attended art school in her native Nashville, continuing at Paier College of Art in Connecticut. She left behind a scholarship offer to hone her skills as a classical pianist, but was awarded a scholarship to the Scottsdale Artists’ School, to study with Bettina Steinke.
Her work has been published in The Best of Portrait Painting, The Best of Flower Painting 2 and Painting More Creatively (North Light Books), as well as in Pastel Journal and Pastel Artist International magazines. She was profiled by the Portrait Society of Atlanta for their journal Folio, achieving Member of Merit status with the organization. She has been featured in live press and print coverage for many unveilings of her commissioned works, as well as her eight solo exhibits. And she has been interviewed for both television and radio programs in California, Alabama, and New York.
Lisa has portrayed 92 inductees for the Astronaut Hall of Fame at Kennedy Space Center, CEOs, a Senator – and many children. She has also been commissioned by a dozen health care centers to produce paintings for facilities from Oregon to Florida, such as M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
A signature member of the American Impressionist Society, Pastel Society of America and the National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society, she is a Distinguished Pastelist with the Pastel Society of the West Coast, and a Member of Excellence in the Southeastern Pastel Society, and has completed requirements for Signature status with Oil Painters of America. She recently accepted an invitation to become an Inaugural Signature Member of California Plein Air Painters, acting as a juror for their Signature program. Lisa has had many gallery and consultant affiliations in her career. She exhibits in national juried exhibitions, and museums such as the Butler Institute of American Art and the Haggin. Her works are included in hundreds of private and corporate collections, including the American Cancer Society, Ortho McNeil Pharmaceutical, and State Farm.

When asked what inspired his winning piece "Yosemite Snowfall", here's what he had to say "Shape, color and contrast are the design elements that drew me to this subject. Those elements against the white background of the snow create a pattern that is arresting and graphically clear. An encounter with the Yosemite wilderness is an encounter with purity, beauty and raw energy."

Thomas is inspired by how light plays across his subject and he has devoted most of his life to capturing it in oil. Thomas prefers to work directly from life for its honesty and immediacy, incorporating many alla prima techniques developed by master artists such as Sargent, Sorolla, and Zorn.
Thomas is a widely collected painter and sought after teacher. He travels extensively painting and teaching workshops across the globe. Thomas has been a guest lecturer at multiple Plein Air Convention & Expos.
He has won numerous awards at some of the very respected art shows and has featured in several Art Magazines. He has been named as an Artist to Watch by The Informed Collector.
Thomas is inspired by the quality of light and makes an honest attempt to to represent the moment in time. When asked what inspired the winning painting, he said “For me, it is the quality of the light that motivates me to pick up the brush, be it a strong, soft, warm, or cool light. Ideally, I try to paint a moment, not a thing, so whatever the subject may be is largely incidental. On one day, I might feel compelled to express the permanence of Yosemite's Half Dome as it is revealed in failing light. On another, I could be struck by the sight of free-range pigs rooting through a pile of trash left out in the street in a third-world country. Or, I could be prompted by something as prosaic as a stack of dishes left to soak in the sink. In the end, what I choose to paint isn’t as important as how it is painted – and of course, the light that illuminates the scene.”
